Police reiterates commitment towards crime eradication in Lagos

                            
The Lagos Police Command through its Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) operatives has restated that commitment of police across Nigeria has not shifted from protecting citizens lives and property, just as its emphasized on need for continuous effort to stem rate of crimes in Lagos, the country’s commercial nerve center.

It explained that even though the Lagos has been recording drastic drop in rate of crimes across the state recently, there would always still be need for police to be proactive in response to situation before any knock at door, due to population of Lagos.
The Commander, RRS, ACP Olatunji Disu, stated that policing in Lagos has been recording positive turn on side of personnel of the law enforcement agent after the state government donated various equipment including vehicles, helicopters and others, to the police, particularly that of recent deployment of generating sets to divisional police stations across the state.
Speaking during a radio program yesterday in Lagos, Disu said that priorities of the Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, and that of the police align, and that their focus were on how to ensure provision of adequate safety on lives of residents and their property through available resources which were major drives that have been assisting in swift response to fighting crimes.
The police boss, who commended Ambode’s relentless effort in ensuring security remain on top of the state government’ agenda, stressed that the state Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, consideration of community policing, welcoming resident’s efforts in tackling insecurity, were a better approach in curbing crimes.
He added that the introduction of the system of stakeholders’ inclusion had yielded the state significant results, especially in Ikorodu axis where killings, kidnappings and cultism menace, and other wrongful acts, recently took toll.
According to him, cooperation and compliance of residents in Ikorodu and releasing of needed information to police led to sudden achievement in crime prevention in the axis, but both state government and Lagos police command have not folded arms after rooting to cause of reported killings and disappearance in the area.
When asked about RRS mode of operation and the formations relationship with members of the public, Disu maintained that the unit has been training its personnel on perception changing which he stated was designed to ensure residents and visitors in the state have good impressions toward police.
